Where are Hotel School students now?

It's nice at Natalie's

“My name is XIAO XIAO. I am a student at Meridian International Hotel School and I would like to thank the IPO. They help me to find a job in Natalie’s Restaurant in Mitcham. It is a nice place and I like this job very much. It is a good opportunity for an overseas student to join the local Hospitality Industry. I think IPO is very helpful for students.” XIAO XIAO (Bella), Patisserie, Term 5

Red Bull Function 2008

The Industry Placement Office (IPO) would like to congratulate the 28 students that worked as Food and Beverage Attendants at the 2008 Red Bull function for the Grand Prix.

This function was catered for by Le Noury Catering who are based at The Charsfield Hotel in St Kilda Road, Melbourne and was held in Shed 4 at The Docklands.

Students that worked this function had the opportunity to be employed as an ongoing casual with Le Noury Catering and The Charsfield Hotel in the future.

This was also a good opportunity for students to earn some extra money and to also have 2 highly reputable companies listed on their resumes as referees.

Student’s Work Experience

My name is Manpreet and recently I worked through Black Tie Catering at the Royal Melbourne Show.

This opportunity came about by visiting the Industry Placement Office a few weeks back. I visited the office on Level 3 at the Flinders Street Campus because I was worried about the lack of Industry experience in Melbourne I have had since arriving here.

The IPO forwarded my resume to Justin at Black Tie Catering and I was contacted shortly after that and asked to come down and sign all of the paperwork.

The Royal Melbourne Show was great and the hourly rate was fantastic. I met so many local people and families. Plenty of work and the shifts were quite long sometimes up to 8 hours.

My role was a Kitchen Hand and involved lots of food preparation and assisting the food teams at the Show.

Overall, it was a great experience and one that I can now add to my resume which will make it a lot easier to get another job next time.
